Bounty, ram dwarf rabbit - Encephalitozoon (E.) cuniculi infection, with tilted head, "balling", apathy

Summery:

Symptoms/findings: E. cuniculi infection according to the vet, otitis interna, tilted head (torticollis), "rolling" (turning on its own axis), apathy and reluctance to eat

My recommendation:

Color light therapy (yellow/green and blue),

DMSO oral,

DMSO (3%) eye & ear drops,

Phytotherapy,

Kidney prophylaxis,

Liver support therapy

CAUTION! This disease is fatal for the infected animal if left untreated and can also be transmitted to humans! ZOONOSIS

Encephalitozoon cuniculi is a parasitic protozoan and lives obligate intracellularly in the cells of the kidney and brain. (Wikipedia)

Unfortunately, as is so often the case with PARASITES LIVING IN THE CELLS, there is no way to get rid of them completely without endangering the host.

This means that treatment in these cases is actually symptom-related.

Birgit and her daughter implemented the therapy recommendation very conscientiously.

DMSO was used for its anti-inflammatory properties and as a "channel opener" for both conventional medicines and phytotherapy.

We had really good success with the use of the colored light therapy device (see also example case "the boss"). A combination of yellow, green and later also blue light, for at least 20 minutes each, for a total of 21 days.

The "rolling" only occurred very rarely at the end of the treatment. The head tilt was almost only seen during relaxation phases and Bounty enjoyed eating just as much as before the infection.

It is not easy to see your own rabbit "like this", but therapy and patience pay off!

Is your rabbit sick too?
